1. Blood donations urgently needed (still!)

Last week’s StaffNews advised that the Red Cross Blood
Service would be collecting donations of blood on campus
this week.

Because the Service was unaware of the timing of semesters
and examination periods at the University, the number of
donations has been significantly less than expected and
hoped for, due to the lack of students on campus.

The service thanks all staff who have donated blood so far,
and urges all who are eligible to consider donating today
(Friday 9 June). The Service will be collecting donations
in the Buffet of the Union Building from 9.15am until 3.30pm.

2. Information about payment summaries for tax year 2004/5

Because of the implementation of Themis HR, Human Resources
advises that most staff will receive two payment summaries
for the tax year 2004/5.

Payment summaries for the period 1 July - 31 December 2004
will be generated from Genesys, and distributed to continuing
or fixed-term staff members’ departments. Summaries will be
mailed to the home addresses of casual staff.

Payment summaries for the first six months of 2005 will be sent
to the home addresses of all staff. HR is concerned that some
addresses have not been updated, and that some payment
summaries may consequently be lost.

It is important that by 20 June all staff confirm that their home
address as recorded in Themis HR is correct, or make any
necessary changes. Anyone who worked casually in 2004
should advise HR by email (hr-paymentsummaries@unimelb.edu.au)
of any changes to home address information.

Themis self service can be accessed at:
www.themis.unimelb.edu.au/, and questions may be
sent to the email address above.

The University is required to send to the Australian Taxation
Office all payment summaries which are returned to the
University, so it is important that all staff make every effort
to ensure the University's information about them is accurate.

10. New focus on careers and employment for
Indigenous students

Careers and Employment wish to advise that Wayne Muir
has been appointed as the Coordinator, Indigenous
Employment and Career Development.

While the University has had a long history of involvement
developing and delivering post-secondary education, training
and employment for Indigenous students dating back to the
1960s and Indigenous employment dating back to 1992, the
introduction of the latest Indigenous Employment Strategy
recognises the need to take continued positive action
against the ongoing disadvantage experienced by
Indigenous Australians in the labour market.

Wayne will be working with a range of stakeholders across
all campuses and the Indigenous community to achieve
successful outcomes for both the University and Indigenous
Australians. He is located in Human Resources Parkville
Campus and would be happy to speak to any staff with
comments or questions about Indigenous employment
and careers development.

Wayne can be contacted at
Tel: + 61 3 8344 9694
